Glamour Goes Modular the SIM2 Way!

Reference standard three-chip projection is now available with long distance connectivity.

Miramar, FL-December 5, 2008-SIM2, the Italian manufacturer whose striking high-performance HD home theater projectors are known worldwide for their pristine video and dramatic cabinet designs, delivers a new addition to the award-winning the Grand Cinema C3X Series. SIM2′s C3X LUMIS HOST pairs a reference standard 3-chip DLP® -based projector with a discrete outboard projector control electronics module that connects via SIM2′s proprietary, three-line optical-digital High-Definition Optical Signal Transfer (H.O.S.T.) system, which is able to connect the two over distances up to 750 feet (250m).

« The C3X 1080 is considered the projector of choice when it comes to benchmark three-chip DLP performance in a compact yet elegant chassis.

The C3X LUMIS HOST system is a natural evolution for the C3X 1080 Series, » said Charlie Boornazian, VP of SIM2 USA. « We are now offering a three-chip solution that blends the beauty of the C3X series with the brains of a modular processor system. The ability to separate the projector from its control electronics by fiber-optic cable with a loss-less connection, allows our dealers the ultimate flexibility of installation.

The HOST system proved to be wildly popular for our single chip offering the HT3000E – and by completing the package with a three-chip reference design glamour goes modular the SIM2 way! »

The C3X LUMIS HOST is based on a trio of the latest 0.95-inch, 1080p DLP® chipsets from Texas Instruments, whose next-generation DarkChip4™ DLP device yields an important increase in picture quality with improved blacks and superior brightness when partnered with SIM2′s proprietary ALPHAPATH™ light engine.

This powerful combination forms a system that delivers full-HD, 1920×1080 progressive video of stunning clarity and definition. The projector’s superb contrast ratio (>35,000:1) is matched by its impressive color depth and remarkable light output (3000 ANSI lumens), resulting in images that have an incredibly realistic, almost three-dimensional quality to them!

An important new feature for the C3X LUMIS HOST is SIM2′s light intensity control system, which in essence, increases the projector’s contrast ratio to >35,000:1 through the use of three separate specialized components: a user adjustable iris, DynamicBlack™ technology and a new dimmable lamp.

However, unlike other variable iris systems which can inflict detrimental effects on the final picture, SIM2′s custom-designed system provides micro-second precision-matched light intensity adjustment to the source material, on a frame-by-frame basis.
The resulting black level and shadow detail add a new sense of realism to the image. This is yet another example of how SIM2′s R&D expertise enables the company to push the performance envelope for projection beyond the capabilities of other manufacturers.

The SIM2 HOST module is a discrete, compact component (approx. 14 x 4 x 12-inches) designed for flexible placement, thanks to SIM2′s HOST three-line digital fiber-optic connection, which empowers A/V installers to locate it up to an astonishing 750 feet from the projector and is impervious to electrical interference – even when placed in conduit containing high voltage electrical cables.

This capability creates an entire range of previously unavailable installation options and more importantly, eliminates the usual signal losses and electrical interference pick up associated with long cable runs.

The HOST module incorporates superbly flexible video switching with no less than six HDCP-compliant HDMI inputs, three HD-capable component-video inputs, and multiple legacy composite and S-video inputs as well as RGB and the SDI professional format.
Add to this, the wide choice of control options on offer: IR, RS232 and IP addressable, and C3X LUMIS HOST becomes a very potent proposition for installers and customers alike.

The C3X LUMIS HOST delivers supreme performance, design and flexibility of installation. A dedicated 10/100 Mbit Ethernet connector is fitted as standard, allowing the product to be connected to a LAN network or to the internet.
This network connection can be used to remotely control the projector using TCP/IP commands or to feedback projector operating status information such as: serial number, working hours and firmware version to a designated e-mail address for assessment.

Grand Cinema™ C3X LUMIS HOST can be easily configured to meet the exacting requirements of a wide range of home theatre and professional applications, optimising light intensity and black level to each scenario.
Whether the requirement is for high brightness (3000 Ansi Lumens) or optimum black level in darkened conditions, C3X LUMIS HOST offers unrivalled customization and flexibility.

In the best SIM2 tradition, the C3X LUMIS HOST is housed in a stunning, high-gloss sculpted cabinet designed by Giorgio Revoldini with the company’s trademark, flowing lines – an Italian masterpiece!

C3X LUMIS HOST – modular, by design.

Denver, Colorado, CEDIA Expo 2008-September, 2008-Italy's SIM2, whose striking, high-performance HD home-theater projectors are known worldwide for their pristine video and dramatic cabinet designs.

SIM2 Combines With Entertainment Experience LLC To Deliver « Better Than Blu » Digital Home Theater System

Denver, Colorado, CEDIA Expo 2008-September 4, 2008-Italy’s SIM2, whose striking, high-performance HD home-theater projectors are known worldwide for their pristine video and dramatic cabinet designs, is partnering with U.S. firm Entertainment Experience, LLC to create the first « better than Blu » solution for high-end home theater installations. SIM2 and Entertainment Experience, which heretofore focused on unique digital media products for the commercial cinema, education, and hi-tech display market spaces, announce that they will begin offering a hardware-software content solution-including pre-loaded, fully licensed motion picture content-that delivers better-than-HD digital video performance to home buffs.

SIM2 and its partner will demonstrate this impressive new Digital Entertainment Solution home theater reference at the 2008 CEDIA Show in Denver, CO.

« The time has come for top-tier home theater content to move beyond HDTV standards, to a format that can truly equal archival-quality film for visual content, » says SIM2′s VP of Marketing and Sales, Charlie Boornazian, « SIM2 already has the display technologies well in hand to allow us to begin migrating these technologies from the commercial digital-cinema world, while Entertainment Experience has the know-how and access to help make this a practical reality.

Together, we are opening the next era of home-theater performance. »

According to Jim Sullivan, ex-Kodak Digital Cinema exec and now President of Entertainment Experience, LLC, the collaboration with SIM2 offers the highest quality media solution on the market. « Now the most demanding video fans can enjoy all forms of entertainment media with the premium quality they have been looking for.

We’re confident that these discriminating, leading-edge consumers will agree with the many movie producers and creative directors who have seen the system: that it for the first time empower us to deliver a truly cinematic viewing experience in the home. »

The Digital Entertainment Solution incorporates SIM2′s C3X 1080 Full HD Home Theatre Projector, the world’s smallest, and by far most elegant three-chip DLP projector.

Capable of reference-grade home-theater imaging at up to 1920x1080p, this exceptional Italian design complements a Digital Entertainment Center provided by Entertainment Experience: hardware/software that stores, secures, manages and outputs the « Beyond HD » content.

The center incorporates advanced video processing calibrated to the DCI (Digital Cinema Initiative) color standards recently adopted by most Hollywood studios and distributors, as well as removeable-hard-disk data storage to accommodate multiple DCI-standard motion picture titles ready for immediate playback.

The system’s audio-video signal processing pulls the system together in the home theater environment, allowing owners to easily integrate current digital media including broadcast/cable HDTV, Blu-ray discs, DVDs, and even Xbox gaming and media-PC systems, into the advanced Digital Entertainment Solution.

Digital Entertainment, LLC predicts that the solution’s movie content ultimately will encompass more than 4000 major titles from multiple studio and distribution partners, which will be delivered direct to consumers via hard drives that may be swapped into the Center’s drive-bays. Each movie occupies approximately 40-50GB of storage space, due to data rates up to 3x that of conventional HD of the future-proof DCI Color format defined by Hollywood for professional cinemas.

When displayed via the state-of-the-art SIM2 C3X 1080, the net result is eye-popping clarity, contrast, and color-gamut fidelity.
Despite its sophistication, users can easily navigate the system, and select titles on-screen using techniques already familiar to all from DVD-archiving and « Media PC » systems, then simply press « Play » and enjoy video and audio performance dramatically better than what’s available from the local cinema.

What’s more, the Digital Entertainment Center , protects customers’ existing technologies from obsolescence by supporting current video formats up to 1080p, and all major color and encoding standards including Mpeg2, Mpeg4, H.264, and VC1, and up-converting these to bit-rates as much as triple conventional HD rates, while incorporating full image and device security.

The Digital Entertainment Center’s 18 video inputs encompass six 1080p/60-capable HDMI ports with HDCP, four SD/HD component, four each S- and composite-video, plus two HDMI outputs supporting resolutions up to 1920x1080p/60. Its exceptionally sophisticated 10-bit video digital signal processing provides for adaptive de-interlacing of both SD and HD sources, edge enhancement without ringing, and uniquely adaptive noise reduction, as well as extensive color and grey level calibration.

SIM2 and Entertainment Experience, LLC expect content to be available soon.

RSX 1550 – 7.1 channel Home Theater Receiver

<img class="center"src="http://www.magazine-audio.com/images/press/nicoll-PR/rotel-RSX1550.jpg" alt="Rotel "/>

« This is Rotel’s most important intro in many years, » says Rotel’s VP of Sales & Marketing, Doug Henderson, « and while these new models incorporate a lot of the latest advanced technologies and include some important refinements of Rotel’s unique amplifier design, the one thing they do not alter is our company’s commitment to musical performance above all else. » Henderson concludes, « These new models were conceived for the listener who truly and passionately cares about sound quality, first and foremost. »

Rotel’s new flagship 15 Series will introduce multichannel home theater receivers, a preamp-processor, and power amplifiers, as well as power amplifiers designed exclusively for custom-installation. (Additional 2-channel series and associated models, will arrive early in 2009.)

Two new A/V receivers and a new preamp-processor, all feature HDMI v1.3 connectivity and full compatibility with the high-resolution audio formats Dolby® TrueHD and DTS HD™ Master, and the forthcoming video enhancements Deep Color (enhanced color depth) and xvYCC (extended color gamut).

All three components incorporate onboard video processing, courtesy of technology leader Faroudja, that delivers 1080p scaling with 24 Hz capability for reference-grade performance with both movie and video programming. The receivers and pre-pro also boast unsurpassed multizone potential, with audio and video pathways and control functions for second, third, and even fourth zones or remote rooms.

Informed audio fans expect Rotel to deliver world-class amplification, and the new 15 Series does not disappoint. The top receiver and power amp models deliver a new generation of Rotel’s widely praised, ultra-efficient class D amplifier topology, for accurate, dynamic, and musical high power that is also astonishingly compact and lightweight. (It’s worth repeating that these are not « digital amplifiers, » but a highly linear, superbly musical analog amplifying topology that utilizes efficient, « smart » switching power-supply technology.)

Meticulous craftsmanship and high end build-quality is evident with sleek new cabinet styling available in a choice of matte black or brushed silver.

Home Theater Receivers

The flagship 7.1-channel RSX-1560, headlines with 7x100W of class D power (with assignable channels for bi-amp or second-zone use), four HDMI v1.3 inputs, and 1080p/24Hz Faroudja video processing, with assignable 12V triggers and RS-232C serial connectivity for easy integration into a customized system-all in a 4U rack-mountable package. The second A/V receiver, the RSX-1550, is a 7.1-channel design with 5x100W of onboard class A/B power: its flexible power amp-assignability makes expansion via any of Rotel’s new compact 2-channel or multichannel power amps a snap.

Surround Processor/Preamplifier

The RSP-1570 Surround Processor/Preamplifier marries the functionality of the RSX-1560 flagship receiver to the unrestricted quality format of separate components, while retaining 4xHDMI v1.3, Faroudja 1080p/24HZ, and highly flexible multizone abilities-all in a 3U rackmount (4.5 inch) cabinet.

Amplifiers

Leading the amplifier lineup is the RMB-1575, another stunning, compact Class D design: 5x250W into 8Ω (or 5×500 watts 4Ω!) of rigorously rated power, in a 3U, rack-mountable format. Just as important, despite its advanced design, the new amplifier yields sound that Rotel classifies as entirely audiophile grade.
The RMB-1565 power amp packages 5x100W of Class D power in a 2U cabinet just 3 inches tall, while a pair of new 2-channel class D models, the 2x250W RB-1572 and the 2x100W RB-1562, both in the 2U (3 in.) form-factor, are ideal for upgrading power or adding channels to 5.1 channel systems.

The big Rotel launch concludes with three new power amps targeted for « whole-house, » custom install systems.
The RMB-1512 features Rotel’s unparalleled, audiophile-quality class D expertise and offers no fewer than twelve 100W channels in a single, 3U height (4.5 in.), rack-mountable cabinet.
Installer-friendly features include input busing, front-panel attenuation controls for each channel, buffered link outputs that maintain signal integrity no matter how elaborate a system grows, and the inclusion of both heavy-duty 5-way speaker outputs and screw-terminals for custom wiring.

The elegant, 2-channel RB-1510 offers 2x65W class D power, and all the features outlined above, in an ultra-slim, 1U rack-mountable case-perfect for adding rooms, zones, or channels as a system expands.
The RMB-1506 is a 6-channel amp that employs a conventional power supply and Class A/B amplifier topology to deliver 6x60W from a 3U cabinet, making for an affordable, audiophile-quality power source for rooms, zones, or even home theaters.
