Un octet impeccable et l’un des tout meilleur Big Band au Canada pour les friands de formations élargies les 3e et 4e soirée de la série Jazz en Rafale (29 mars et 3 avril):
Samedi 29 mars à 21h - Espace Dell’Arte Joe Sullivan Big Band invite George Garzone - soirée
Durant son séjour à Boston, voilà déjà vingt ans, Joe Sullivan a passé de nombreuses soirées à écouter George Garzone et son ensemble The Fringe, qui constitue sans aucun doute une référence incontournable dans le mouvement avant-gardiste depuis 1972.
Aujourd’hui, c’est avec une immense joie que Joe Sullivan invite ce saxophoniste extraordinaire.
Le concert est une véritable opportunité d’entendre l’un des artistes de jazz les plus importants de sa génération en compagnie de plusieurs de nos meilleurs saxophonistes québécois (Rémi Bolduc, André Leroux, Al McLean…)
Depuis sa creation en 1998, le Big Band de Joe Sullivan est devenu une force majeure sur la scène jazz à Montréal.

D’un swing conventionnel à un impressionnisme digne de Gil Evans, en passant par un free aussi imprévisible que structuré, le Jazzlab est capable d’apprivoiser toutes les approches.
Cette capacité à élaborer avec enthousiasme une perspective musicale particulière dans l’univers du jazz actuel est sans doute ce qui frappe le plus chez ce collectif qui ne propose que des projets d’une rare intensité et démontre un insatiable goût d’explorer, de combiner avec audace les styles issus des diverses tendances du jazz moderne.

La finale aura lieu à l’espace Dell’Arte les 28, 29 mars et 3, 4, 5 avril 2008, en première partie des concerts de la série Jazz en Rafale.
Ces 5 groupes seront jugés par 4 personnes issues du secteur musical montréalais, et par le public via le site internet

March 29, 9 p.m. - Espace Dell’Arte : Joe Sullivan Big Band featuring Gerorge Garzone - Night
During a stay in Boston twenty years ago, Joe Sullivan spent many evenings listening to George Garzone and his ensemble The Fringe, an unquestioned exemplar of the avant-garde movement since 1972. So it is with great pleasure that Joe Sullivan welcomes this extraordinary saxophonist as his guest artist. This concert is a unique opportunity to hear one of the most important jazz artists of his generation in the company of some of Québec’s very best saxophonists (Rémi Bolduc, André Leroux, Al McLean…)
Since its creation in 1998, Joe Sullivan’s Big Band has become a major force on the Montréal jazz scene.

Jazzlab makes surprisingly possible the gathering of distinctive paths within a collective endeavor to tame a wide spectrum of approaches and styles, from conventional swing to a Gil Evans impressionism via free jazz that sounds as much unpredictable as it can be articulated. he capacity to elaborate with enthusiasm a musical perspective of their own within the world of contemporary jazz is probably the most striking character of this Montreal-based think thank that explores the paths of modern jazz with a rare intensity and boldness.

We are now down to the five finalists of the Jupiter-Vandoren Jazz en Rafale New Talent Contest:
The finale will take place at the Espace Dell’Arte on March 28 & 29 and April 3, 4 & 5, 2008, with finalists performing live as the opening
acts of Jazz en Rafale concerts.
The five groups will be judged by a panel of four Montréal music industry professionals. The public will
also be allowed to take part in the selection process via the Jazz en Rafale website (www.jazzenrafale.com).
